Please join us as we discuss The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, which dramatically recounts the history of the American Olympic triumph in 1936 Nazi Germany. Nine working class boys from the American West, not expected to defeat the elite rowing teams of East Coast and Great Britain, showed the world what true grit really meant, even defeating the team rowing for Adolf Hitler. The remarkable achievement of the University of Washington team is juxtaposed against the tumultuous rise of Nazism and Anti-Semitism, in an era when Germany sought to hide the truth from the world’s view. This book has received several awards, including the American Booksellers Association award for Adult Nonfiction Book of the Year in 2014. For more information, contact Barbara Barry at
