Anaf Mitzvah Project!

Anaf (Branch) – Grades 4 & 5

Our 4th and 5th grade students don’t just learn about Judaism – they live it, with the classroom as a laboratory of Jewish experimentation and discovery. Every session incorporates singing, storytelling, and hands-on activities, inspiring our children with the wisdom of our ancestors and building a community of friends and families. Our children celebrate the Jewish holidays by creating ritual objects imbued with personal meaning that they can use at the synagogue and at home. They come to see Congregation B’nai Shalom as a second home, feeling comfortable in our sanctuary, library, and classrooms, and developing relationships with our rabbis. They learn that every moment of the day contains within it the possibility of standing up for what we believe, for doing what is right, and for expressing gratitude for what we have.

Hebrew Program

Beginning as an optional program in grade 3 and continuing as a required program for grades 4 – 6, students attend school either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons for Hebrew instruction.   Small classes and creative programming are hallmarks of our program.  Rooted in music, Hebrew in Harmony encourages students to create meaning from personal prayer and make emotional connections through communal prayer. The flowing words help students learn Hebrew through the music! Our self-paced and child-centered approach allows each student to achieve according to their own ability and teachers are able to adjust the program according to each child’s abilities.
