Darfur Event

NYC Event for Darfur, September 19

There will be a series of events in New York City related to the continuing genocide in Darfur, Sudan on Sunday, September 19. Activities include a rally and speeches near the UN, most likely at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.

While the situation in Sudan has faded from the news, violence against the tens of thousands of displaced persons in refugee camps has continued unabated. In addition, the entire country is threatened with massive civil war as it girds for a critical January secession vote in the southern region. More than ever, we cannot remain silent as entire peoples are threatened with extermination. The Obama administration and leaders around the world need to act now to avert a catastrophe in Africa's largest nation.

The Massachusetts Coalition to Save Darfur is arranging for buses to take people from Metrowest and other parts of the state to the NYC events that morning and returning late that evening. There is a nominal charge for transportation costs. Adults, college and high school students are welcome. To sign up, go to SaveDarfurMA.org. For more information, contact Jeff Govendo, .
