Scientists in Synagogues Salon: (IM)Mortality

Thursday, January 17, 2019 11 Sh'vat 5779

7:00 PM - 9:00 PMSocial hall

Scientists in Synagogues is our special occasional series where our members bring their scientific expertise to a contemporary topic, along with Jewish philosophical questions that can guide our conversation. Open to all, please bring some light refreshments, wine, or soft drink to nourish the body as we nourish the mind.

Dreams of immortality have fascinated people for thousands of years. Torah teaches that “human...lifespan shall be [only] 120 years” (Genesis 6:3), and modern scientific studies suggest that the biological limitation on human lifespan may indeed be 115 to 120 years. However, that has not diminished the search for technologies to extend human lifespan.

Join us for the first Scientists in Synagogues Salon conversation of 2019! Our discussion will address the biology of longevity, technological approaches to extend it, social consequences of aging, and Jewish concepts of longevity.
